Fresh Sheet Cookbook

EDITORIAL DESIGN / INFORMATION DESIGN

Imagine a cookbook with no food photos. Sounds risky, right? But Fresh Sheet proves that typography alone can make a cookbook both beautiful and easy to navigate. Featuring recipes from Vancouver’s top chefs, this book uses three carefully chosen fonts and a crisp colour palette to guide readers effortlessly through each recipe. A light blue accent ties it all together, nodding to the freshness of the ingredients and the waters of Vancouver. With clear hierarchy and thoughtfully designed layouts, the book keeps things functional yet stylish. The goal was to revitalize the text-only cookbook in a way that is beautiful and functional despite its lack of imagery. It uses set text type and more expressive display typography to make a cookbook which complements the recipes and is clear and concise enough to function as a manual, that any reader can easy navigate through and cook from. It’s proof that you don’t need flashy images to make a cookbook mouthwatering—sometimes, good design and great writing do all the work.
